Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a popular public speaking event organizer. She founded Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are depicted in popular culture. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. Furthermore she aims to create awareness about online harassment targeted towards women as well as those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the University. As of 2009, this ambitious young woman was targeted by the Internet for starting a web featuring a series about gender and videogames. The attack did not deter her instead it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women within pop media stories.
